“PUO Targets Abia House of Assembly Seat, Unveils ‘PROMISE’ Agenda for Bende North 2027”

A former Deputy Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro (PUO), anipr, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Bende North State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okoro made the declaration at a well-attended gathering of party leaders, stakeholders, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, councillors, and supporters across the constituency, describing his move as a defining moment driven by purpose, conviction, and responsibility.

In his address, he emphasized his commitment to people-oriented and result-driven legislative representation, noting that his ambition is rooted in a genuine desire to improve the lives of constituents.

He commended the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for what he described as transformative governance, highlighting projects such as the ongoing Umunneato General Hospital, road infrastructure development across Abia North, erosion control efforts, and expansion of primary healthcare services.

Reflecting on his tenure as Deputy Chairman between 2020 and 2022, Okoro stated that his administration prioritized grassroots engagement, accessibility, and collaboration, yielding tangible impacts in various communities.

He stressed that Bende North deserves stronger legislative representation that is visible, proactive, and deeply connected to the people, while acknowledging the efforts of the current lawmaker.

Highlighting the constituency’s political pattern since 2011, where no lawmaker has secured a second term, Okoro described it as a clear indication of the people’s desire for renewed and effective leadership.

He used the occasion to unveil his “PROMISE Manifesto,” an acronym-driven blueprint focused on:

People-centered representation Rural development and infrastructure Opportunities for youths and women Medical and healthcare support Institutional strengthening and transparency Security and social stability Education and human capital development

Describing the manifesto as a covenant of service, Okoro pledged to prioritize the welfare and aspirations of the people if elected.

He revealed that consultations have been ongoing since 2025, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive dialogue and consensus-building.

“My aspiration is not driven by personal ambition alone, but by a burden to serve, uplift, and transform Bende North,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his chances, Okoro assured party members and constituents of his readiness to secure victory for the Labour Party and deliver impactful representation.

“If given the opportunity, I will not only represent you, I will make you proud,” he added.

His declaration is expected to reshape the political landscape in Bende North as momentum builds toward the 2027 general elections.
