Labour Party Reboots in Abia: Azubuike Emerges Chairman as Otti Declares “New Era” Ahead of 2027

The Labour Party in Abia State has taken a decisive step toward the 2027 general elections with the successful conduct of its State Congress, producing a new leadership team led by Mr Peter Azubuike as State Chairman.

The congress, held in Umuahia, drew delegates, stakeholders, and observers, including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and marked a significant milestone in strengthening the party’s internal structure.

In his address, Governor Alex Otti praised the peaceful and transparent process, describing the outcome as the beginning of a united and forward-looking chapter for the party. He emphasized the end of internal divisions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the new leadership.

Azubuike, who hails from Obingwa LGA, expressed confidence in the party’s future, pledging aggressive membership mobilisation and grassroots expansion. He dismissed opposition threats and projected strong optimism about retaining power in 2027.

Other key positions were filled through a consensus-driven process aimed at inclusiveness across the state, reflecting representation from various local government areas and party blocs, including labour unions.

The exercise followed earlier ward and local government congresses and sets the stage for the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for April 28.

With renewed unity and a fresh leadership structure, the Labour Party in Abia appears to be positioning itself strategically for the political battles ahead.
