Pioneer Class of Abia Leadership Academy Set to Begin in Umuahia

The Abia Leadership Academy is officially set to open its doors to its first cohort on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter in youth leadership development in the state.

On a statement from the secretary to the Abia state government Prof. Keneth Kalu, Participants in the inaugural class are expected to arrive at Government College, Umuahia, from 12 noon with all necessary items as earlier communicated during the screening and interview stages.

This 7-day immersive, in-residence programme will host 250 young Abians per cohort, with a total of 1,000 participants aged 16–20 expected to pass through the Academy in 2025. Subsequent cohorts will take their turns over the next four weeks.

The Academy is a special initiative of Governor Alex C. Otti, OFR, aimed at preparing young people for the demands of leadership in a fast-changing world.

Applicants who have completed the test and interview stages are advised to regularly check their emails and text messages for updates on their resumption dates.

Limited slots are still available for those who wish to be part of the pioneer class. Interested candidates born between 2005 and 2009 can register now via: abiastate.gov.ng/leadershipacademy.
