PETER OBI CONDEMNS DEADLY ATTACK IN ENUGU, CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION ON RURAL INSECURITY

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the recent violent attack in Ikpakpara village, Agamede, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, describing it as a heartbreaking tragedy and a stark reminder of Nigeria’s growing insecurity crisis.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday around 4:30 p.m., left at least seven people dead and two others missing, as suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly stormed the Agu-Amed Autonomous Community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that helicopters were seen hovering above the village during the assault, with some residents alleging that the attackers were airlifted into the area, deepening fear and confusion among locals.

Reacting on Tuesday via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi expressed grief over the bloodshed and called for immediate and lasting security measures in Eha-Amufu and other vulnerable communities across the country.

“Yet another heartbreaking report of the brutal killing of innocent farmers in Ikpakpara village, Agamede, Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State,” he wrote.

“My heart breaks for the Eha-Amufu people, for the grieving families, and for those still searching for their missing loved ones.”

Obi emphasized that the repeated attacks on farming communities are not just humanitarian crises but national security threats that are undermining food security, economic stability, and national unity.

“These killings must stop. We cannot keep watching communities bleed without justice or protection. We cannot continue to allow our farmers to be afraid of going back to their farms,” he stressed.

He urged the federal government to treat these persistent rural attacks with the urgency and seriousness they deserve, warning that continued silence or inaction could further destabilize the country.

Obi closed his message with a note of solidarity and sympathy:

“To the people of Eha-Amufu, you are not alone. I offer my heartfelt condolences to your community, and I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace. May peace and security return to your land.”
