Ebonyi Police Neutralize Criminal Kingpin in Iyonu, Recover Rifles

The Ebonyi State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the neutralization of a notorious criminal kingpin in Iyonu community, Ishielu Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the operation took place on August 29, 2025, when operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a criminal hideout in Iyonu Forest.

The hoodlums reportedly opened fire on the police, prompting a fierce gun battle. In the exchange, the gang’s leader, Isaiah Okoronkwo, who had been on the Command’s wanted list for a long time, was neutralized. Two AK-47 rifles were also recovered from the scene.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, reassured residents of Ebonyi State of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
