The Senate Adhoc Committee overseeing the emergency administration in Rivers State has commenced the screening of President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for key government agencies in the state.

Chaired by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, the committee on Monday began the exercise with the screening of Dr. Michael Odey, nominated as Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), along with six other members.

However, proceedings took a turn when the committee discovered that Dr. Odey hails from Cross River State, prompting the lawmakers to step back and study the extant legal framework guiding such appointments.

The committee is also expected to screen nominees for the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, with Israel Amadi as Chairman, and those for the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, headed by Dr. Barikor Baribuma, who leads a five-man team.

The screening is part of federal efforts to stabilize governance structures following the political crisis in Rivers State.
