Otti Tasks RMFAC on Oversight Role, Reaffirms Abia’s Commitment to Financial Discipline

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has called on the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) to step up its oversight role by not only monitoring revenue allocations to states and government agencies but also ensuring the funds are put to judicious use.
Governor Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, made the call while receiving a delegation led by Mrs. Nkechi Oti, the newly appointed Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the RMFAC, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Umuahia.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public finance, noting that a national framework should be established to allow citizens to track revenue inflows and how they are utilized.
“The Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission is an institution every Nigerian should be proud of. It ensures that revenue is fairly distributed, but beyond allocation, there must be mechanisms in place to monitor how funds are used,” he said.
Dr. Otti stated that Abia has become a shining example of fiscal responsibility, driven by a government that understands how to manage resources efficiently.
“We may not receive the highest allocation, but what sets Abia apart is financial discipline. Everything you see happening—from cleared salary arrears to rehabilitated roads, hospitals, and schools—is a product of prudent resource management,” he noted.
He added that under his administration, Abia has proven that good governance is achievable with the right financial principles, revealing that before his government came into office, workers were owed salaries, but within two years, all arrears have been paid, and major infrastructure projects have been executed.
The Governor also congratulated Mrs. Nkechi Oti on her appointment and charged her to represent Abia effectively at the federal level.
In her remarks, Mrs. Oti said her visit was part of a familiarization tour following her appointment as RMFAC Commissioner. She expressed pride in the Otti-led administration’s transparent use of federal allocations and pledged to work collaboratively with the state government in promoting fiscal integrity.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu, alongside other top government officials, was present during the meeting.
