Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has assured that he is leading efforts to secure the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking during the September edition of his monthly media parley, “Governor Otti Speaks,” held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, the Governor revealed that discussions are ongoing at different levels, with the active involvement of South-East Governors.

While stressing that the details of the engagements cannot be made public so as not to jeopardize the process, Otti maintained that he is committed to seeing Kanu return home.

“We have been engaging on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but the level at which we are engaging, the discussions that have happened, and the assurances received are not for public consumption since it may derail the process. But you can take it for granted that, as his Governor, I’m at the forefront of ensuring he comes back home. All the South-East Governors are in tandem, so we are discussing it,” Otti said.

The Governor’s assurance comes as renewed calls grow across the region for Kanu’s release, a matter that has remained central in South-East political and social discourse.
