Gov Otti Launches Multi-Billion Naira Infrastructure Project in Partnership with AfDB, IsDB, CACF

Abia State took a bold step forward in its development journey on Friday, July 11, as Governor Alex Otti unveiled the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIID) — a multi-billion naira initiative set to transform the state’s infrastructure with support from top global development partners.

The project is being executed in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Canada-Africa Climate Fund (CACF), and will focus on key areas including road rehabilitation, erosion control, and waste management.

Speaking at the formal launch held at the Conference Hall of the JAAC Building, Ogurube Layout, Governor Otti described the initiative as a strategic move to deliver tangible results through meaningful partnerships.

“This project is a major milestone in our commitment to transform Abia’s infrastructure and economy,” the Governor said, emphasizing that the collaboration would fast-track job creation in agriculture, transportation, and light manufacturing.

He noted that the erosion control component would bring long-awaited relief to communities facing gully erosion threats, while the waste management reforms would attract private sector investment and create new employment opportunities.

“Our faith in Abia shall be repaid across generations,” Otti declared, “through increased economic output, rising numbers of entrepreneurs, and a community of educated, healthy people whose creativity will shape our future.”

Governor Otti also expressed deep appreciation to the AfDB, IsDB, and CACF for believing in Abia State’s potential and thanked the Federal Government, acknowledged as the “Primary Borrower”, for its technical backing and support.

“Every fund received will be used judiciously,” he assured. “The terms of agreement are favorable and reflect our local realities.”

Representing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Oyadele Akonde lauded the initiative as a major step toward economic transformation. He praised Governor Otti’s commitment to infrastructure and improving the quality of life in the state.

Top representatives from AfDB and IsDB reaffirmed their institutions’ support and promised to work hand-in-hand with the Abia State Government to ensure the success of the project.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, noted that the ABSIID would significantly improve Abia’s road network, reduce transportation costs, and boost job creation across sectors. He commended the Governor for his vision and leadership.

As the state sets the pace for infrastructure-driven growth, the ABSIID marks a defining chapter in Governor Otti’s promise to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia.
