“Refund Our Money!” – Family Members Called Out As Woman Allegedly Defrauds Couple In Palm Fruit Farm Deal

A Nigerian woman identified as Emem Ekanem Essien has been accused of allegedly defrauding a couple in a palm fruit farm investment deal, sparking calls for her family members to intervene and ensure the money is refunded.

According to a statement shared by the victim, Emem allegedly convinced the couple to invest in a palm fruit farm, claiming the farm owner was critically ill and urgently needed money to be taken to the hospital. She reportedly warned that if the woman died, the money already paid for the farm would be lost.

The complainant said that during the negotiations, they requested the phone number of the farm owner’s son and another relative who was said to be involved in the transaction. However, Emem allegedly claimed that neither of them had a phone.

Despite the red flags, the couple said they continued making payments because they trusted her, especially due to the church department she reportedly belonged to.

The situation reportedly became more troubling when the husband of the complainant fell seriously ill and the couple decided they no longer wished to continue with the investment. However, Emem allegedly continued to pressure him to complete the payment even while he was on his sick bed.

According to the complainant, the remaining balance was eventually sent through their regular POS agent.

After receiving the full payment, Emem allegedly stopped responding to calls and messages for three days. When she eventually contacted them again, she reportedly claimed that her lawyer had traveled to Calabar and would return in a week to sign the agreement documents.

The complainant said that after repeated delays and excuses, they decided to send someone to accompany her to finalize the agreement. It was during this process, they claimed, that it became clear the entire deal was not genuine.

The victim further alleged that after they reported the matter privately to their church and attached Emem’s pictures and phone number in a complaint email, she eventually contacted them and admitted that the money had been used for a personal project.

Despite the allegations, the complainant claimed that Emem continues to move freely and has resumed her duties as a protocol officer within the security department of the church.

In the public message, the complainant called on Emem’s relatives — Kessy Ekanem, Blessing Ekans Jnr, Uduak Ekanem, and Ubong Ituen — to intervene and persuade her to refund the money.

“Tell your sister to refund the money she took from us while she still has the opportunity,” the complainant stated.

As of the time of filing this report, Emem Ekanem Essien has not publicly responded to the allegations.
