President Tinubu accepts resignation of Geoffrey Nnaji as minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology.

Nnaji’s resignation, which took effect on Monday, October 7, 2025, comes in the wake of allegations reportedly leveled against him — details of which remain undisclosed as of press time.

Appointed in August 2023, Geoffrey Nnaji was one of the key figures in President Tinubu’s cabinet, charged with driving Nigeria’s scientific and technological innovation agenda. His tenure witnessed efforts to strengthen research institutions, foster innovation hubs, and promote digital transformation across sectors.

In his resignation letter addressed to the President, Nnaji expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation under Tinubu’s administration. He noted that his decision to step down was borne out of a desire to clear his name and avoid any distractions that could undermine the government’s focus.

“I have been a target of sustained blackmail and political attacks from opponents who are uncomfortable with the progress we are making in the ministry,” Nnaji reportedly stated in his letter. “Out of respect for the President and in the interest of our national image, I have chosen to resign.”

Responding, President Tinubu commended Nnaji for his contributions to national development and wished him success in his future endeavours.

In an official statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency acknowledged receipt of Nnaji’s resignation and confirmed the President’s acceptance.

“The President appreciates the services rendered by Geoffrey Uche Nnaji during his time in office and wishes him well in his future pursuits,” the statement read.

Nnaji’s exit marks another notable change in the Tinubu administration’s cabinet, as political watchers await the appointment of a new Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology to continue the ministry’s ongoing initiatives.
