Otti Swears in Two Commissioners, Special Adviser, Reshuffles Cabinet

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, says leadership is about service, not luxury. He made this clear on Tuesday as he swore in two brand new commissioners and a Special Adviser, while also announcing a minor cabinet reshuffle to inject what he described as “fresh energy and ideas” into his administration.

At the ceremony held in the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti charged the new appointees to bring integrity, commitment, and results to their offices, stressing that his government has zero tolerance for corruption or compromise.

Those sworn in include:

Dr. Mrs. Salome Obiukwu – Commissioner for Trade and Commerce

Architect Chiemela Uzoije – Commissioner for Housing

Prince Christian Enweremadu – Special Adviser on Agriculture

Governor Otti also announced adjustments in his cabinet, moving the former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Kingsley Nwokocha, to head the Ministry of Labour and Productivity. In addition, the Ministry of Lands and Housing has been split into two separate portfolios for efficiency, with Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije now serving as Commissioner for Lands.

The Governor emphasized that the new officials have “no honeymoon period” and must hit the ground running, noting that Abia has “gone past the halftime mark” of his first term. He reminded them that credible evidence of corruption or misconduct will attract immediate sanctions.

Governor Otti also highlighted some of his administration’s achievements over the last 28 months, including strides in road construction, security, education, and healthcare delivery. He urged his expanded team to work in unity to consolidate on these gains and deliver measurable improvements for Abians.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Obiukwu thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged their commitment to work diligently for the progress of the state.
