Ex-Abia Deputy Gov Okochukwu Dumps PDP, For Labour Party, Gives Reasons ”

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has formally welcomed the former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Okochukwu, into the Labour Party, describing the move as a “bold and weighty political decision.”

Okochukwu, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined the Labour Party with his loyal supporters and political structure, the Abia Vision Rangers.

The reception, held in Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, drew a massive crowd of party leaders, members, and supporters. Governor Otti assured the former Deputy Governor of equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing that the Labour Party remains inclusive and non-discriminatory.

“This is a party that does not discriminate. There is no difference between someone who joined today and those of us who came earlier. Everyone has equal rights and opportunities,” Otti said.

He described Okochukwu as a trusted friend and a fair-minded leader, recalling moments when Okochukwu openly acknowledged and respected him even while they stood in opposing political camps. The Governor also revealed that Okochukwu had privately pledged his support during the 2023 elections despite remaining in PDP at the time.

On development, Governor Otti announced that the long-neglected Itu Nkporo Road has been awarded for reconstruction, stressing that every Abian deserves quality infrastructure. He thanked the people of Ohafia for their support in delivering victory to the Labour Party in the 2023 elections.

In his remarks, Okochukwu explained that his decision to dump the PDP was inspired by Otti’s transformational leadership and people-oriented governance within just two years in office. He praised the Governor for embarking on key projects, particularly the long-abandoned Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Ohafia Road, which he struggled with during his tenure as Deputy Governor.

The former Deputy Governor assured that his supporters would fully align with the Labour Party under Governor Otti’s leadership.
