GOV. OTTI FLAGS OFF FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH IN ABIA

In a major boost to healthcare access in Abia State, Governor Alex Otti has flagged off a five-day free medical outreach offering a range of free surgical operations and health services to residents. The outreach, organized by the U.S.-based Living Hope Foundation in partnership with the Abia State Government, kicked off on Sunday at the Living Hope Medical Centre, Eluama in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

The initiative is part of Governor Otti’s broader commitment to make healthcare accessible through both public and private healthcare institutions across the state.

Government Backs Lifesaving Medical Mission

Speaking at the event, Governor Otti—represented by the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche—emphasized the administration’s readiness to collaborate with reputable global health organizations to deliver quality services to the people.

“What we are doing here is a partnership with a global health organization, Living Hope Foundation, which has been offering free medical outreaches for over 36 years. The Abia State Government is committed to working together with them to expand impact and deliver on our administration’s goals,” he said.

Professor Uche noted that beyond infrastructural renewal, the government is also investing in manpower development to bridge skill gaps in the healthcare sector.

Over 40 U.S. Medical Experts Join Local Team

Governor Otti appreciated the involvement of about 40 U.S.-based medical experts who are in Abia to perform various surgical procedures—including hernia, lump, and tumor operations—completely free of charge. He added that the outreach is being conducted simultaneously at both the Living Hope Medical Centre and the Isuikwuato General Hospital.

A Tribute to Dr. Onyebuchi Acho

In a heartfelt tribute, the Governor commended Dr. Onyebuchi Acho, founder of the Living Hope Foundation, and his wife for their long-standing commitment to humanitarian medical missions.

“For 36 years, you have brought our people back from the brink with a level of dedication that is nothing short of phenomenal. You’ve changed the healthcare narrative in Isuikwuato, and we in Abia are immensely proud of you. Your example embodies the kind of selfless service our government stands for,” Governor Otti stated.

Dr. Acho: “We’re Saving Lives One Outreach at a Time”

Dr. Onyebuchi Acho, a U.S.-based medical doctor and president of the Foundation, described the outreach as a ministry born out of compassion for Nigerians facing preventable deaths due to lack of access to care.

“I’ve known Governor Otti for a long time, but this is the first time I’ve seen a governor who truly cares about his people the way I do. I’m excited to partner with him now and in the future,” Dr. Acho said.

Dignitaries Attend Launch, Patients Already Receiving Care

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna; former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd); the Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board (HMB); and the Head of Medical Outreach at the Ministry of Health. The first day of the exercise saw numerous patients treated and successfully operated on.

The outreach continues throughout the week, offering a lifeline to many who otherwise may not afford critical medical interventions.
